So Ashton and I have started a really fun personal project with some of the musicians we’ve photographed together. It happened quite accidentally, just from playing around on set one day, and is quickly becoming a habit to get our subjects in masks for a few frames on the shoot. Here are a couple of the first shots. As we add more, a gallery will be added to my main site under “projects.”

This was a record shoot: grooming, wardrobe, pizza, and 3 looks in about an hour!

Once upon a time I aspired to be a choreographer for music videos and concert tours. Have I told this story before? Anyhow, life happens and dreams change, and despite that I no longer dance much it is still a big part of me. So when I learned from my favorite tv show that a National Dance Day was in the works, there was no question that I would be celebrating. This morning I got up early, donned my “Dance It Off B****” tee, grabbed my camera bag, and set off for the Music Center in Downtown L.A.
The event was launched by Nigel Lythgoe and the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a group that I would love to get involved with. I’m already dreaming up cool documentary-type projects that I could shoot with them (since I really don’t see event photography in my future). However I did have fun covering this event – getting shots of the kids dancing around me and this fantastic moment between Adam Shankman and Mia Michaels.

I’m generally perfectly happy to stay behind the camera, but this month’s assignment for This Is A Photo Blog was to shoot a self portrait. The twist was that we were asked to choose the work of another of our fellow contributors to take as inspiration. I selected the fashion work of Alexa Miller. I loved her compositions, depth of field with items blurring out in the foreground, and use of multiple exposures. Please be sure to check out This Is A Photo Blog to see more self portraits from some fantastic young photographers.

Made a quick trip to New York last week for lots of running around and portfolio lugging.
